The Neuroscience Honors Society
at the University of Virginia
Welcome to Nu Rho Psi at UVA!
Nu Rho Psi is the National Honor Society in Neuroscience, founded in 2006 by the Faculty of Neuroscience. In our chapter at the University of Virginia, we connect our members with pre-professional resources for a future career in neuroscience and promote engagement in neuroscience in the Charlottesville community.
Our local chapter was founded by Isabelle Witteveen (Class of 2020) and Sakar Budhathoki (Class of 2020) in 2020. Prof Xiaorong Liu has been serving as the faculty adviser since then.
UVA Parents Program recently awarded the UVA chapter of the Nu Rho Psi National Neuroscience Honor Society with $900.00 for our outreach project. With the additional support from UVA Student Council and the Program in Fundamental Neuroscience, this past spring our local Nu Rho Psi chapter hosted Peabody School for a neuroscience field trip to UVA. Special thank you to the Treasurer of Nu Rho Psi, Shrinidhi Kittur (Neuroscience Class of 2025), who applied for these funds.
The 2023-2024 executive team of Nu Rho Psi, Abhi Verma (Neuroscience Class of 2024), Kathryn Chung (Neuroscience Class of 2024), Jason Borst (Cognitive Science Class of 2024), Nandini Sriram (Neuroscience Class of 2024), Shrinidhi Kittur (Neuroscience Class of 2025), and Trisha Maheshwari (Psychology/Cognitive Science Class of 2024) are extremely grateful for these funds to promote this organization and its students at UVA and beyond.
We recently fundraised $230 for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to support mental health awareness. Thank you to everyone who donated and contributed to a good cause!
Our second journal club of the semester will be on Wednesday, November 6th at 5pm in Gilmer Commons. It will feature member presentations on current neuroscience research, news, and media. We hope to see you there!
